Safety, Care and Cleaning Instructions:
First, a few things to know about your Bannor Toys:
- Bannor Toys is committed to provide highest quality products which comply with and exceed all US standards and regulations.
- Wood is naturally anti-microbial. Bacteria does not sustain life for long and does not duplicate on wood like it can on plastic or other surfaces.
- The silicone we use is the highest quality, completely free of BPA, PVC, Cadmium, Lead, Latex and Phthalate.
- Each toy is handcrafted here in Iowa, and passes through several hands before being packaged up. We are human, so every now and then we can miss something, but it is rare. If there is something we missed with your toy please email us Hello@Bannortoys.com so we can find a solution.
That all being said, we know you will want to wipe down your toys on occasion, it's no problem as long as its done in moderation. You never want to submerge your toys in water or allow them to be soaked for a long time though as that will ruin the grain and make the wood more likely to break. Hot water will dry your toys out faster than room temperature water. Just use a damp cloth (not super wet), and a mild dish soap, sparingly. Wipe dry immediately. If you are wiping down your toy you will also need to be re-treating it with our wax care kit which can be purchased here in order to keep the wood conditioned and free from breaks or cracks.
If the finish on your toy dulls over time you can simply apply a 50/50 mixture of beeswax and any food grade oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or our favorite organic flax seed oil. No prep work needed, simply wipe on, let it soak in, then wipe any excess off and you are done! We sell a care kit that contains a 2 oz tin of our homemade wax and a couple sanding sponges here: Shop Care Kit.
Just a note: just because a toy has lost some of it's shine over the years doesn't make it unsafe. It is ok if you don't re-apply a finish, toys get better with age - just think about those ones you find in grandmas attic!
Wheels and other small parts can come loose over time with play, you can always pop it back in the mail to us for repair!
Grasping Toys and Teethers
Our grasping toys come natural so there is no finish to re-apply. We sand our toys smooth so you can avoid any raised grain as your baby goes to town on these things! However, with prolonged use you might feel some rough spots resulting from your babies saliva. These are not dangerous, the wood is not in danger of splitting or cracking.
If you want to restore your toys and teethers to the satin smooth finish all you need to do is get some 220-400 grit sandpaper from your local hardware store and rub the teether surface a few times. You can use the sanding sponges in our care kit or a new green scrubber pad from the kitchen to sand it down. Your teether arrived pre-sanded so it won't take much effort or scrubbing on your part in the future. Please do not submerge your teethers or toys in water as it will raise the grain.
Silicone
We use food-grade silicone that can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth or baby wipe. Remember, do not submerge the wood toys and teethers in water. The silicone beads should be inspected periodically to make sure they are still secure, do not allow your child to play with them if they become loose - email us for next steps.
Do not use without full adult supervision. Inspect teether and silicone before every use and discard if damaged or beads come loose.
